'4 lbs of onions = one electric mixer grinder' cost wise..

This is US.

What about India.. do we need another reason why Indian farmers are poor?

It is little surprising for me to see that onion is more costlier than mixer there..hmm..no wonder you we indian farmers are poor..

Well. Its a complicated thing.. becos its good that food is very cheap here.. Otherwise our beggars and people below poverty line, cant even sustain... thou farmers are the sufferers.. And from my experience, i can say that compared to europe (i dont know abt US), indians have a big range in the standard of living.. from almost nil money - very poor - poor- medium- rich- very rich, etc... And in europe, the "very poor" population itself is insignificant in numbers...

Thanks krishna for dropping ur views..

Aarthi,

Can think in the other way!!

Since our production technology is so.. weak, our infrastructure and other engineering product costs are high, there by inaccessible to the farmers/poor. Like they are feeding us with cheaper food, we can also give them tech. Thanks to TATAs. :)

It is so depressing that we don't even have proper technology for making good glass!!

Krishna..
Very true.. That we (from cities) and big companies should do some service back to our farmmers in return to their services to us... I agree very much abt ur views on farmers...

And at granular level.. There are leaders (but not really behaving so) for each village who controls his poor farmers in a very HIERARCHIAL manner... So.. there must be something done in addittion by our GOVT.. and companies like TATA to see if it really reaches the needful and the deserved ones...

correct aarthi..

A wild thought came to mind..
so far 'corporation' are proven to be reliable to bring innovation and fast faced way of development.. than our conventional systems like co-operative societies.. and all..

what if we could bring corporate interference in our farming system.. let us say.. like issuing stakes and stocks relative to lease the land these people have.. and operate as corporation..

the people who used to do farming... may shift to jobs.. in the same corporate infrastructure.. and additional opertunities.. can be created by bringing the technology.. in place..

gosh.. we could do something like this.. :)

Ur idea is quite interesting. It involves "management change".. People like anil ambani could be capable of bringing such a change..I meant: Some big person has to kind of acquire (as a leader) and start such an organisation.. a small person may not be able to educate our poor farmers and ensure that it is a sustainable soln...

I am thinking.. What is the killer issue so that no one else have thought abt this?

Its actually a great Idea.. Thou I am naive to a large extent how this can be implemented..

same here..
but I would like to start/work on something like this.. and that too from my home town. It would definitely out-weigh working on international problems..

Quite Impressive. And the Benefits too outweigh the risks here.. Best wishes.
